While looking over The Doors Official Website, I was thinking about my favorite songs and poems that Jim Morrison had written...
I have many favorite poems by The Doors, but 2 of them stick out more than any.The first, "Moonlight Drive", was one of the first songs that Jim had ever written. (Before the drugs and everything else had begun with the band.) That was the poem that actually got him noticed. I feel that Moonlight drive is one of the most romantic poems ever written by Jim. It shows pure love, pure ecstacy.
The second is "The Ghost Song". I don't know why i love it so much but its one of the most beautiful poems I have ever heard. *I am slowly adding mroe of my favotire songs here that were by the Doors. Some of his best songs are the "rare" ones that are not on most of the studio recordings. The 2 songs I am adding today are "Universal Mind" and "Whiskey, Mystics, and Men". *"Universal Mind"--My interpretation of this song is how Jim feels about his career as a rock and roll musician. I mean, he wasn't meant to be a rock star! He was a fuckin' poet! His most beautiful songs are his ones that are written about nature and sex and everything passionate and beautiful. One of the mein reasons, I feel, that he died at such a young age was because he was obsessed with, fame, fortune, money and girls. (And yes, that includes sex, drugs, & rock n' roll) *"Whiskey, Mystics, and Men"-This song is really cool. It tells its own little poetic story. I haven't totally figured out what all of this means yet so when I do I'll post it. Until then, read it, maybe you can figure out your own interpretation.(If you already ahve one, email me!) I am going to post these poems in honor of my favorite American Poet, James Douglas Morrison.

*Moonlight Drive*
Let's swim to the moon, Let's climb through the tide.
Penetrate the evenin' that the
City sleeps to hide.
Let's swim out tonight, love
It's our turn to try,
Parked beside the ocean
On our moonlight drive.
Let's swim to the moon, uh huh
Let's climb through the tide,
Surrender to the waiting worlds
That lap against our side.
Nothin' left open
And no time to decide,
We've stepped into a river
On our moonlight drive.
Let's swim to the moon
Let's climb through the tide,
You reach your hand to hold me
But I can't be your guide.
Easy, I love you
As I watch you glide,
Falling through wet forests,
On our moonlight drive, baby
Moonlight drive.
Come on, baby, gonna take a little ride
Down, down by the ocean side.
Gonna get real close,
Get real tight,
Baby gonna drown tonight,
Goin' down, down, down.

-The Ghost Song-
A wake. Shake dreams for your hair
My pretty child, my sweet one.
Choose the day
And choose the sign of your day,
The day's divinity.
First thing you see.
A vast radiant beach
And a cool jeweled moon.
Couples naked race down
By its quiet side,
And we laugh like
Soft mad children
Smug in the wooly
Cotton brains of infancy.
The music and voices
Are all around us.
Choose they croon
The ancient ones,
The time has come again.
Choose now they croon
Beneath the moon
Beside an ancient lake.
Enter again the sweet forest.
Enter the hot dream
Come with us.
Everything is broken up
And dances.

The rarely heard, second part of The Ghost Song:
Indians scattered on Dawn's highway bleeding,
Ghosts crowd the young child's
Fragile egg-shell mind.
We have assembled inside
This ancient and insane theatre
To propogate our lust for life
And flee the swarming
Wisdom of the streets.
The barns are stormed
The window is kept
And only one of all the rest
To dance and save us
From the divine mockery of words.
Music inflames temperment.
Oh great creator of being
Grant us one more hour
To perform our art
And perfect our lives.
We need great golden copulations.
When the true king's murderers
Are allowed to roam free
A thousand magicians arise in the land.
Where are the feasts we were promised?
*-Universal Mind-*
I was doing time
In the universal mind.
I was feeling fine.
I was turning keys,
I was setting people free.
I was doing all right.
Then you came along
With a suitcase and a song,
Turned my head around.
Now I'm so alone,
Just looking for a home
In every face I see.
I'm the freedom man.
I'm the freedom man.
I'm the freedom man.
That's how lucky I am.
I was doing time
In the universal mind.
I was feeling fine.
I was turning keys,
I was setting people free.
I was doing all right.
Then you came along
With a suitcase and a song,
Turned my head around.
Now I'm so alone,
Just looking for a home
In every face I see.
I'm the freedom man.
I was doing time
in the universal mind.
I was feeling fine.
I was turning keys,
I was setting people free.
I was doing all right.
Then you came along
With a suitcase and a song,
Turned my head around.
Now I'm so alone
Just looking for a home
In every face I see.
I'm the freedom man.
I'm the freedom man.
I'm the freedom man.
oO0o-Whiskey, Mystics, And Men-o0Oo
Well, I'll tell you a story
Of whiskey and mystics and men.
And about the believers and
How the whole thing began.
First there were women and
Children obeying the moon.
Then daylight brought wisdom
And fever and sickness too soon.
You can try to remind me
Instead of the other, you can.
You can help to insure
That we all insecure our command.
If you don't give a listen,
I won't try to tell your new hand.
This is it, can't you see
That we all have our ends in the band.
And if all of the teachers and
Preachers of wealth were arraigned.
We could see quite a future
For me in the literal sands.
And if all the people
Could claime to inspect such regret,
Well we'd have no forgiveness,
Forgetfullness, faithful remorse.
So I tell you, I tell you,
I tell you we must send away.
We must try to find
A new answer instead of a way.
